WE HAVEN’T STOPPED!
The Covid 19 has created a social distress in Kenya, causing the closure of schools and lockdown with curfew. Only in a month, in Mtwapa, a coastal town, has seen 4000 cases of abuse and early pregnancies, children on the street, recruitment for delinquency and hunger for all.
Since March they have all been left to their own devices.
However, we at Kenya School Desk, we didn’t give up and during the lockdown in March in Italy, we worked on the fabrics brought home from Kenya during the solidarity trip of KSD on 20 February with which we made many beautiful masks for the Covid-19 and, thanks to their sale, we were able to bring relief and food to the children and their families who live in the villages near the schools.
The next step is to realize a DREAM, a new big project of Kenya School Desk: FARM PROJECT.
We spotted two acres of land in Langobaya, near primary school and 40km from Watamu, in the middle of nowhere, on the way to Tsavo East Park.
Here we wanted to grow corn, potatoes, tomatoes, aubergines, peppers, melons: everything that can be used to feed the children of our many schools.
In addition, we wanted to create a Kenya School Desk head quarter used as a collection and sorting center. Here, there will be immediately a dispensary with kitchen where food will be stored, ready to be delivered and/ or cooked.
The kitchen will be equipped with benches and tables where the children of nearby schools can come to eat during the lunch break.
In the future, there will also be a henhouse, a water tank, toilets and an indoor school of 6 classes (3+3).
Our philosophy is that we have to make them work to make them autonomous, and the Covid-19 is a worldwide emergency that teaches us, even more, that the earth is critical to survive.
This is our idea and together we will be able to achieve it! ❤️
On Facebook we opened a fundraising and to start we are looking for the amount for the land (3500€) and for the construction of the dispensary with kitchen (5500€).
